Whoo-hoo !! We can host guests again

We just saw the news that restrictions will be eased in regional Victoria from Wednesday midnight. This includes travel to other regional areas and the opening of accomodation.

Details of the third step which applies from Wednesday midnight in regional Victoria are specified at https://www.vic.gov.au/third-step-coronavirus-road-to-recovery

So we can take bookings from residents of regional Victoria to arrive as soon as Thursday. Fingers crossed we get some bookings to make up for the lost income for most of this year. We hope a lot of regional Victorians decide to take this unique opportunity to enjoy the jewels of their own state but without the crowds from Melbourne and interstate. Our rates are  lower than they otherwise would be for the school holidays.

It will be nice to chat to humans again.

New Web Site – reviews welcome

As you may have noticed if you’re reading this and you have seen the Buffalo Bed and Bike web site in the past – it has totally changed. We are using a new theme and booking plug-in so that when dates and number of guests have been selected the total price is calculated. To start with I will confirm the booking manually via email whilst any teething problems are sorted. Then it can be fully automated later.

Any feedback on the web site and the booking process would be very welcome. If you are not making a real booking – just testing the process for me, just mention that fact in the booking form. I can confirm the booking and then cancel it immediately afterwards.

Although the two bedroom apartment is described on the web site, bookings are not yet open as we have not finished the interiors and furnishing. Photos will go up once that is finished and special introductory offers announced.

But if you would like to book it for later in the year or next year please get in touch

Occupancy permit for apartments received – how to celebrate ?

It has been a long journey from buying this property almost three years ago to eventually completing the new building so we could retire here and host guests at the same time. This includes those with mobility restrictions. The bushfires in January and consequent lock-out of guests for the summer holidays, followed by Covid-19 travel shutdown from March to end June, meant that we had lost a deal of income and so needed to do much of final finishing off ourselves – a much slower process.

But we made it and received our permit on the 4th August when stage 3 restrictions were commencing in regional Victoria and stage 4 in Melbourne.

So we had a quiet celebration at home just the two of us and hope that we can celebrate properly some time in the future when state borders are open and friends and family can visit.

There is still quite a bit of work to be done finishing the interiors but we hope to be ready for photographs of the downstairs accessible apartment in a couple of weeks and open for bookings after that. Hopefully that coincides some travel restrictions being lifted. We will be offering some great specials for our first guests as there will no doubt be little glitches and we will appreciate feedback – especially from those with mobility restrictions.

Construction well under way in spite of bush fire evacuations

In December North-East Welding completed the site cut, footings, slab and steel frame. The waste water treatment system has also been installed by Vertex Plumbing. Graham and I have just finished the walls and ceiling of the lower ground unit ready for the plumber and electrician to do their bits. We have had to evacuate twice because of the bush fire threat which has slowed us down a little, but we hope to return Sunday evening to continue on – provided the fire has not come our way 🙂

Construction of guest apartments has commenced

Construction of two guest units commenced at Buffalo Bed and Bike in November and we are very excited to be almost at lock-up stage. Hopefully by April they will be ready but we are not taking bookings until we are sure. The ground level unit is fully accessible according to the Australian standard. Each unit has two bedrooms, a living/dining area and bathroom/toilet. There will be a mini kitchen with microwave, fridge and hotplate for simple meal prep. You can see on the site plan where they are located between the existing house and Great Alpine Road.
